What to read after Lord of the Rings: for Teddy

Teddy has finished reading Lord of the Rings, and wants to know what other great fantasy is out there to read next. Here's some 4 and 5 star suggestions:

Guy Gavriel Kay: The Fionavar Tapestry
Perhaps the best fantasy trilogy ever.

Robin Hobb: Assassin's Apprentice, Royal Assassin, Assassin's Quest
Also on the top shelf of fantasy, this trilogy is a great coming-of-age-royal-bastard-becomes-an-assassin-and-saves-the-kingdom story.

Terry Brooks: The Sword of Shanara trilogy
I loved the first three in the series when I was Teddy's age, but for me the series ran out of steam after that. The first 3 books in the Shanara series are now available in one hardcover.

Christopher Paolini: Eragorn
Don't be put off by the publishing hype, it is really quite good.

Robert Heinlein: Glory Road
One of Heinlein's only fantasy books - and a great read.

Zelazny: Amber
All 10 Amber books are available in an omnibus softcover volume. Amber is the one true world; all other worlds are just mere shadows of the real thing. The royal family of Amber has power over all...if only they would stop killing each other. Hard-boiled fantasy noir.

Steven Brust: the Vlad Taltos books
Vlad Taltos is a witch/assassin who starts out with aspirations of becoming an organized crime boss, in a world where humans are the despised minority species; his familiar is a wise-cracking, telepathic flying lizard. The first 9 books in the series have been reissued as 3-in-1 paperback volumes.

T.H. White: The Once and Future King
The wonderful, tragic story of King Arthur, Camelot, Lancelot and Guenevier. Zeb and I are reading this now. He laughs a lot. The Disney movie "The Sword in the Stone" is based on the first volume of TOaFK. If you want more Camelot after this, try T.A. Barron's The Lost Years of Merlin.

Jacqueline Carey, The Kushiel trilogy
A courtesan is trained as a spy in an intricate society; epic adventure, intrigue, romance, sacrifice, and tragedy ensue with incredible plots, pacing, and characters. Superb, but "too adult" - graphic sex, and some Tarantino-esque horrors that made even me and Melissa shudder. Put this on your list for when you've moved out of your parents' house....definitely don't forget about it; it's on our top shelf of fantasy along with LOTR, Fionavar, and Assassin.

I have sugar power!

Melissa:
"You've got me in a kerfluffle!"

Isaac (Note: power is pronounced POWah; sugar is not shugar, but suhgah.):

"I save you from dose!"
"I get dat mean kafuffel!"
"My power has sugar in it! Instant power sugar!"
"I sugared him! Let's eat him now! Not all at once, in little pieces!"
"I save you from dat kafuffel with my sugar power! Instant sugar power!"
"I'll sugar that kafluffel!"

Golden Rule = dessert

Dan tries to explain the golden rule to Zeb: "Treat other people the way you want them to treat you."

Isaac perks up his ears at Dan's words and pipes up: "I want a treat!"
